Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro and and very few other names is that IT services industry is all about, I think there is a slight misconception here regarding services and product development. Had you even heard about any software like Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac etc from any Indian company....Most probably the answer will be no and it is quiet right Indian IT sector is largely a services based sector in which you have to take an order from outside, implement it locally and then deliver it globally. While there is one other side too companies like Microsoft, IBM, Google are coming up in India for setting up its research and development centres here. You can see the decline of Indian IT sector from the fact sheet of Dalal Street, How many companies were there in top list of Indian Companies ten years today and how many are still surviving in toppers list?
The situation is clear, now other sectors like realestate, energy, telecommunication are growing at a tremendous pace and there are various reasons why it is happening in IT sector some of them are listed below...
Weakening Dollar... Yes it has created a lot of trouble in our IT industry, the industry where every transaction is completed in a range of few dollars, obviously the surviving is very difficult because the profit margins are coming down, the work which you were earlier doing in Rs 45 now you are doing in Rs 39 when the inflation is rising, definitely it is creating a lot of trouble for IT industry.
Identity Theft Problems... Although the rate of identity theft in India is one of the lowest however you can take it in account when you are living for surviving because of stiff competion from outside too, Indian BPO and KPO industry is one of the largest in the World, so it matters a lot it definitely relates with your brand equity in market.
Other Markets Calling.... Ten years back we had an advantage of good english speaking population having cheaper renumeration but today dynamics are drastically changing and the countries like China, Phillipines, Brazil are marching forward into the queue, they are giving lot of stress in creating english speaking culture there and definitely they are making the way for themselves and now the sector is examining keenly, just to foray there because the renumeration is low there also low attrition and corruption rate.
So it can be largely said that although IT is experiencing a lot of problem in surviving but definitely there is a lot of hope here because they are now directly going into campuses and directly interact with students, their upcoming workforce. IT had a good times and they all will return soon if any industry survives even from post Y2K period it will definitely catch up in today's times too..
